DAY 01 (Bhubaneswar)
Arrival bhubaneswar.Transfer to hotel.Half day s/s includes temples belonging to 7th to 11th century a.d ,jain monk caves belonging to 1st century b.c,Dhauli peace pagoda,etc . Orissa has a rich past.Incredible temples with unique kalinga architecture are the tangible proof of
the glorious bygone era. Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa is also known as the temple city. Bhubanewsar means the land the lord Shiva in the Odia language which is the native language. Alhough the Bhubaneswar city has a two thousand year old history, the modern
avatar of a state capital came into being in the year 1948.Bhubanewsar has been in the run to establish itself as a smart
city under the central government scheme of smart cities. So there is prolific side to its modern urban development and
a heritage of old town with temples.Apart from hindu temples Bubaneswar has been a centre of Buddhist and Jain philosphy.
After breakfast proceed to konark enroute visiting the famous pipli aplique village,.Konark sun temple is world famous for its architectural style and attract number of tourists from the different corner of india and abroad.
Konark is the third corner of the golden triangle , the other two being Bhubaneswar and Puri. Konark is a world heritage site beacuse of
the incredible Sun temple. The beauty of the Knorak Sun temple is such that, Rabindranath tagore was prompted to quote it as " Poetry
in rock". Konark is 64km from Bhubaneswar and 34km from Puri. The style of Konark is that of a typical Kalingan which was designed like a
humongous chariotof the Sun God, with seven pairs of wheels and seven horses. The main idol of Sun God used to remain suspended in mid air held by the pull of two huge magnets , one above and other below on floor.
The marine drive connects Puri to Konark running close to the beach . Drive from konark to puri on the marine drive.Puri is famous for lord jagannath temple and golden beach. Puri , on the banks of Bay of Bengal, is the district head quarters of Puri district which is at distance of 60km,from the state capital Bhuabneswar. Puri is otherwise known as Sri Jagannathdham because of the Jagannath Temple built around
12th century. Beacuse of the Jagannath Temple , Puri is also known as'Shrikhetra'.The British took over the admintration of Puri from 1803 till 1947 but heirs of the Gajapati dynasty of Khurda discharged the ritual duties of the Jagannath Temple.The life and economy in Puri revolves around the temple and its rituals. Every year Rath yatra or chariot festival paves for a hectic socio-religious and economic activity . During the 11 day festival more than 15 million people throng the place and it is believed to be place of largest congregation in any part of the world.Being a coastal town and lovely beaches Puri gets heavy footfalls from domestic as well as international.You can also get enough time to visit the art and craft village and such places of interest for the tourists .Stay over night at puri.
Drive to chilka lake ,the largest brackish water lake in asia.Chilika , the largest coastal lagoon in India and the second largest in the world is home to endangered Irawadi dolphins,37 species of repltiles and amphibians and more than 10 species of raptors.It also houses endangered dugongs. Chilika had a very strong maritime bonds with Java, Malaya, Singhala, china and other south eastAsian countries. So it was an important trading center.Infact The British invaded Odisha through chilika and occupied Odisha. The lake has number of lakes and among them six major islands are Parikud, Phulbari, Berahpura,Nuapara, Nalbana, and Tampara. Kalijai Temple island is a majour tourist destination among these islands. The life of the people residing on banks of Chilika revolves around it. During winter,from december to february an island called nalabana inside the lake is full of migratory birds from siberian belt.two hours cruise by boat is required to reach nalabana island.Evening proceed from chilka to Taptapani-natural hot sulphur spring. DAY 04(Gopalpur)
Drive to Chandragiri,the Tibettan Settlement Camp & the Carpet weaving center of the Tibbettan people.The place came to prominence with the settlment of the Tibetian refugees driven by the opressive chinese Government from their home land Tibet. This place came to be known as Jiranga or Chandragiri but the settlers call it as Phuntsokling which in Tibetian translates to "Land of Happiness and Plenty". A beautiful monastery has been built by the Tibetian settlers in honour Padmasambhava Mahavira . It is a mojor Buddhist tourist attraction and has facility for learning and meditation. It features a 23 feet high Buddha statue and a 17 feet high Padmasambhava statue. Apart from agricultural the Tibetian settlers have turned their traditional carpet weaving into a lucrative occupation. Carpets produced at Chandragiri are of very high quality and exported to European nations.Afternoon drive to Gopalpur .Overnight at Gopalpur on sea
Morning relaxe on the beach .Gopalpur is a major tourist destinaton with its beautiful long and deserted beaches beckoning the enthusiasts. It has different aquatic sports to offer.Once a fishing village it was developed into commercial port by Sorraine family. They built a port, a light house and a Hotel. Once a thriving port which had maritime links with the South Asian countries slowly fell into ruins. Apart from the commercial aspect Gopalpur with its long deserted,langurous beaches with coconut and casuarina grooves,is a lovely beach to relaxe. After breakfast , drive to Udaygiri/Lalitgiri/Ratangiri, the triangle of Budhist monasteries dating bback to 2nd century B.C . There are two museum, with excellent collection from the sites of Ratnagiri, and Lalitgiri. This cercuit is popularly known as the diamond triangle of Orissa .Diamond triangle is the referral circuit of Buddhist pligrimage in Odisha. The three corners of the diamond triangle are Udaigiri,
Lalitgiri and Ratnagiri which are the heritage sites that were once the integral part of Pushpagiri University. It is believed to in flourishing between 7th and 12th centuries. Buddhism got a boost in Odisha due to efforts of the King Harsha when he deputed Jayasena, a Nalanda scholar, to achieve his end.
Ratnagiri which literaly means diamond hill was strategically chosen to evade invaders so that monks can peacefully go about their business of learning .It has a giant mahastupa surrounded by several small stupas. A 12 feet tall Buddha statue is found flanked by Padmapani and Vajrapani on both sides. There are around 24 cellshaving dilapidated stautues inside.Udayagiri essentially means the rising hill. There is a brick stupa which has a large Buddha and three other which are smaller in size in three different cells. There is also a Chaitya Griha and many smaller stupas around.Lalitgiri is perhaps the most scared of the three because a relic belonged to Buddha was found ; his teeth bone inside a stone casket which is dispalyed in the museum.The site has four monastaries and one Chaitya Griha which are void of any deity or carvings.No doubt these wonderful buddhist heritage sites transport's one in to that era but when realisation dawns into reality, the memories linger forever .Afternoon, drive back to bhubaneswar enroute vising the silver city at cuttack.
